What Is Professional?

The word "professional" is used often in the world of photography. What does professional really mean? For myself, it means to photograph someone/something and represent it to the best of my ability. The actual image is just the beginning.

I think of KARSH and his famous Winston Churchill portrait. The raw photograph Karsh took was not the finished product that the world has come to recognize as one of the greatest portraits ever and certainly the most famous one for Karsh.

The negative was not handed to Churchill to play with and become representative of Karsh's work. Professional retouching, skilled printing and the presentation in a professional manner was what Karsh released to the world.

This type of treatment is what I feel the professional photographer should be capable of delivering to their client, whether a wedding, portrait or commercial assignment.

The two examples here show what can be achieved. The first a beautiful white peacock displaying his splendor but unfortunately in a screened in pen. Should not his magnificence be the focal point, rather than the wire mesh surrounding him?

The second a romantic young couple on the shores of the Rideau Canal as the sun is setting. Should not the beautiful light shining on the couple producing the softness and romance of the moment be your lingering thought?
My thoughts to you, "Hire a professional".

Kathey & Wayne Celebrate

Kathey and Wayne joined with family and friends in an intimate and beautiful setting for their wedding on July 25. The Hunt Club was resplendent with flowers and the backdrop of the 18th green was every photographer's dream. It didn't even rain, which is something these days. Enjoy moments of their day.

Love Is In The Air

Jacqueline and Victor who await their wedding day on August 8/09 joined me to get some engagement shots. Other than the "pesky" mosquitoes, it could not have been a more perfect evening. The late evening light allowed us to play by the locks of the historic Rideau Canal where Victor had enjoyed as a young boy growing up in the area.

Their enthusiasm and creative input for images made for a great session. I can hardly wait to work with this great couple on their wedding day.

Two Makes Life Interesting

What's better than one? Why two of course! That's the way it is with Anne & Brent Murray who have twin, two year old boys. Since family was home from New Brunswick it was a great time to gather for some family photos. Rain had poured constantly, but just before the session the skies cleared and left us with saturated colors and the opportunity to be outside. Thank heavens, for sitting still inside is not what two year old boys are made of.

Everyone was easygoing and adapted quickly to what would work best for the little ones.

My Profession Never Tasted Better!

As mentioned in an earlier "blog", I was enjoying the opportunity to photograph the fine dining restaurant, Brigadoon. Cheryl, the owner of the Brigadoon and originally from England, knows the delight and fascination with afternoon teas. They have been introduced to the Brigadoon where groups of two to forty-six have enjoyed these treats.

One can imagine my delight, that after photographing one of these teas, Cheryl instructed me to sit down and enjoy it. Oh boy did Ted and I enjoy it!

Urquharts Gather To Celebrate Parent's 59th Anniversary

Maureen and Frank Urquhart opened their home to the Urquhart family to celebrate Frank's parents 59th Anniversary. This young looking couple enjoyed the opportunity to have all their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with them on this special moment.

For Maureen and Frank it was also an opportunity to proudly present their eleven month old granddaughter, Brooklyn. What a sweetie! A wonderful surprise for myself was the realization that Brooklyn's mom, Brittney was a past student. Where does all the time go!

Brooklyn was especially fortunate to be able to share her day with two sets of grandparents AND two set of great grandparents. There's not too many little ones who have that rich resource of love surrounding them.

Congratulations to all!
